Our Story

Achilles Heat® is an artisanal Brooklyn brand specializing in smoked chili crisp and small-batch smoked hot sauces that celebrate global flavor through a local, handcrafted lens. Every jar is made by hand using a slow-smoked pepper process that layers depth, umami, and bright, balanced heat.

Our signature Smoked Chili Crisp, winner of ‘Best New Sauce’ at ‘Sauce King NYC 2025’ is smoky, crunchy, and deeply flavorful, made with hickory-smoked peppers, crispy garlic, and shallots fried to perfection in a bright spice-infused soy bean oil. It’s nut-free, sesame-free, and gluten-free, and pairs beautifully with everything from noodles, dumplings, and wings to pizza, brisket, and even ice cream.

What makes Achilles Heat® unique is the balance of smoke and flavor. The peppers are slow-smoked in small batches to coax out natural sweetness and complexity. Each batch is infused with aromatics like star anise, cinnamon, and ginger, creating a deeply layered flavor that’s bold yet never overpowering.

Achilles Heat® encompasses the founder’s love of local Brooklyn craftsmanship, storytelling, and history into every detail, from the 17th-century botanical-style label art to the focus on quality, sustainability, and small-batch production.

Beyond the jar, Achilles Heat® is also part of the Brooklyn food community through our pop-up kitchen, Better than Porridge, which appears regularly at local bars, breweries, and markets. Each pop-up features creative, comforting dishes built around Achilles Heat® products, like Slow-smoked wings and Pork Chashu Sandwiches, Dry-aged Queso Burgers, and New England-style Shrimp Rolls, all topped with Achilles Heat sauces, connecting people through flavor and hospitality.

Our goal is to share the craft and story of smoked chili crisp with more people, collaborating with chefs and showcasing how it complements traditional multi-cultural dishes, modern American comfort food, along with Asian-fusion flavors. Achilles Heat® isn’t just a condiment; it’s a bridge between cultures and cooking styles, born from smoke, spice, and creativity.
